The Ministry and Impact of Celebrate Recovery
Celebrate Recovery is in its sixth year at Kamloops Full Gospel. During that time, many people have moved forward in their healing from their hurts, habits and hangups. Recovery can be a long process for some, but each step is a victory in itself. The power of Celebrate Recovery's ministry is expressed by one person:
I believe that God is my Higher Power. He has forgiven me for my sins and my past. He has taught me to pray daily for myself and for others, including my ex-husband. He helps me forgive others for the abuse against me. I have learned that it wasn't my fault. He has given me Freedom from drugs and alcohol. I love being sober and straight. - P.W.
Learning to let go of the past so that God can take us forward into the future is an important part of the recovery process for each person. We all have hurts in our lives, and for most of us that has led us into our own personal hangups and from there into habits. Celebrate Recovery shows us that we can leave the past behind and get healing, that we can learn to forgive others, and ourselves, and move on with our lives.
What has Celebrate Recovery done for me? It has taught me to believe in a loving God again, and that He gave His Son Jesus Christ for our sins. It has taught me that we are God's children. CR has helped me find myself and saved my life too. I now have new friends and family. I was lost spiritually, emotionally, and physically and very broken-hearted. CR is continually helping me grow in all areas of my life (hurts, hangups and habits). It gives me strength, joy and weekly reminders of how to work, live, think in my life instead of self-loathing and everything negative. It gives me hope!! What a change from the resentment, anger, and bitterness that was previously all there was in this shell of a woman! - D.J.
The purpose of Celebrate Recovery is to fellowship and celebrate God's healing power in our lives through the eight recovery principles found in the Beatitudes and Christ-centered 12 Steps. This experience allows us to be changed. We open the door by sharing our experiences, victories, and hopes with one another. In addition, we become willing to accept God's grace in solving our life problems.
By working the Christ-centered steps and applying their biblical principles found in the Beatitudes, we begin to grow spiritually. We become free from our addictive, compulsive, and dysfunctional behaviours. This freedom creates peace, serenity, joy, and most importantly, a stronger personal relationship with God and with others.
As we progress through the principles and the steps, we discover our personal, loving, and forgiving Higher Power-Jesus Christ.
Join us at 7:00 pm each Thursday for an Amazing Spiritual Adventure!
